The Joslyn Castle Returns to its Former Glory

McGill Restoration - Joslyn Castle

The Castle, Carriage House and Annex have been washed and tuckpointed, sealing the limestone against water, and repairing and replacing mortar joints to prevent moisture from getting in. Once the project was fully studied, architects discovered problems with stones near the top of the building which have deteriorated from time and weather. Replacing or repairing stone is being discussed to determine the best course of action.

The work has been done by McGill Restoration. The McGill company is an area expert in cleaning and restoring historic buildings. Tim McGill, a Joslyn Castle Trust board member and Vice President of Property Management, personally oversaw the work. Along with the cleaning, McGill Restoration workers have rebuilt the back stairs by repairing cracks in the stone hand rails and repositioned the iron post railings.
